Message I used to have a CD changer, so I previously had created a DIN insert to house my Profec BC and the display for the changer.

A few months ago, I finally entered the new millennium and upgraded to an Alpine MP3 head unit. This was partially out of necessity since my Bose HU was cutting in and out more and more frequently - a well known problem with the Bose HU.

With the new HU, I decided my DIN plate needed an update. I made a feeble attempt to create a new insert, failing miserably. If only I had a tool capable of cutting a straight edge! As much as I tried to justify running out and buying a table saw, the angel on my right shoulder beat the living tar out of the devil on the left.

I decided to hit up my good pal Carlos (Cap927) to see if he'd be willing to "work his magic" and fab a new insert for me.

Fortunately, he had some time to spare, and put together an awesome panel. Thanks buddy. Extremely happy with the results. Without further ado, here are some pics.

Shot of the chassis, made to bolt up to the stock unit

Testfit - the idea here is that the chassis will support the BC unit (it will sit on the "crossmember", and secure it with double sided tape.

Here's a shot of the faceplate. It's tight enough that the BC is a press-fit. It would probably support the BC all by itself actually, if one wanted to go that route

BC pressed in

Secured in the chassis. The zip tie offers further support AND there's another piece of double sided tape on the top. This sucker ain't going anywhere

Mounted with the stereo. Note the two tiny screws securing the faceplate to the chassis. Subtle

Mounted in the car

This is how we roll (except normally there's boost) :-)

And when we're parked, it's all aboot the stealth. nixit approved?

Since I had no use for the busted HU, I hacked the front off and used it as a cover for the Alpine unit. Sourcing a Bose center channel cover from the classified section completes the stealth look.

No pics of the actual car due to me being a slacker and not having it presentable :-(
